Nataraja - Dancing Shiva is the cosmic dancer. This image shows Shiva's roles as creator, preserver, and destroyer of the universe and conveys the Indian conception of the never-ending cycle of time. He dances on the belly of ignorance. The river Ganges flows from his head while he dances in a ring of fire. This is a powerful image as the purpose of Nataraja dance is to release the souls of all beings from the snare of illusion and to evoke the oneness of God and creation.
